New Jersey Virtual School™ Academic Integrity Statement 

Academic integrity means:  

• Your work on each assignment will be your own

• Your collaboration with another classmate on any course work must be pre-approved by your instructor

• You will not practice plagiarism in any form

• You will not allow others to copy your work

• You will not misuse content from the Internet

• You will not simply copy & paste from Generative AI

NJVS defines plagiarism as copying or using ideas or words (from another person, an online classmate, or an internet or print source) and presenting them as your own.   

The use of generative AI, such as ChatGPT, should be at the discretion of your instructor. A key expectation of academic integrity for NJVS™ students is completing their own work. While AI tools can often be beneficial for brainstorming, blindly submitting work generated by AI is a violation of our policy.
 
Please be aware that all NJVS™ instructors utilize multiple technologies to check student work for authenticity. If an instructor confirms a student plagiarized in any manner, the student will be subject to consequences determined by NJVS™ administration, including removal from the course with a failing grade. 

Students who take courses during the regular school year can receive accommodation with a short extension provided both the school district and New Jersey Virtual School™ approve of the extension period. Students should log in daily to keep up with their assignments. Courses are open 24/7 and students can work at any time, including weekends, to maintain academic progress. 

For summer school students: As a policy, NJVS™ does not permit extensions for summer school students. However, it recognizes extenuating circumstances where a student may need a bit more time.   

To request an extension, please submit a request to NJVS™ (at least five days before the end of the semester) by going to help.njvs.org. If approved, you must pay a $100 course extension fee before NJVS™ extends the course. 

Please note: Extenuating circumstances do not include family vacation, summer camp, or simply falling behind. Following a review of the request, NJVS™ will notify the student of approval or denial. An extension fee ($100 per course) will apply unless the extension is due to illness and the student provides a doctor's note to the NJVS™ office.   

The New Jersey Virtual School™ is a course provider for grades 6 through 12. The student’s local high school receives a numerical grade report from NJVSNJVS™. 

It is the responsibility of the student’s school to accept the grade, align the numerical grade to the school’s grading system, and place it on the student’s official high school transcript for credit. Therefore, it is highly recommended that parents or guardians get approval from their child's home district (in writing) before enrolling in NJVS™ courses. Course syllabi may be provided to facilitate the approval process. Syllabi can be found in the course catalog or requested from help.njvs.org.

It is not the policy of the NJVS™ to align numerical grades to any school’s grading system since every local high school varies in their grading policies. 

Parents/Guardian or Private Pay Policy 

To receive a full refund, you must submit a refund request within the drop period (one business day) of enrolling with the New Jersey Virtual School™.   

Refunds requested after the drop period will only be honored for extenuating circumstances, at the discretion of MOESC Administration.

Please note: Extenuating circumstances do not include dissatisfaction with the course, academic challenges, or technical difficulties.

However, if NJVS™ administration determines you are eligible for a refund, $100 is non-refundable.  

NJVS™ will not issue refunds within three weeks (21 calendar days) of the end of the term.

Districts and/or School Refund Policy 

NJVS™ will not issue refunds or credit to a school district after five days of enrollment. 

Technical support for the New Jersey Virtual School™ is provided via an online support ticketing system and live chat feature. For Technical Support, please visit the FAQs or Tech Support page.   

Due to the volume of users, NJVS™ does not provide tech support via telephone.  

Please note: Technical Support is available seven days a week through the ticketing system. Each request is addressed in the order they are received. Please allow 24 hours for a response. We thank you for your cooperation. 

Full payment must be made prior to the end of the registration period in order for enrollment to take place. Any payments made after the enrollment period will be refunded and the enrollment will be dropped.

We expect all students and teachers to use appropriate language at all times, avoiding any form of profanity, derogatory, or offensive remarks. Violations of this policy may result in disciplinary action to maintain a constructive and inclusive educational space.
