Frequently Asked Questions
-
Are courses available for all grade levels?
Currently, the NJVS provides comprehensive (full year), credit recovery (make up) and semester courses for grades 6-12. We are working toward growing our catalog to cover K through 12!
-
Can a student go on a vacation with their family during or camp during virtual summer school?
NJVS courses are available 24/7 via the Internet. Please make sure the vacation location has internet access and the student will have time to study a minimum of 3 hours daily per course. Also, if the midterm or final has to be taken in person, this may impact vacation scheduling. If you are traveling outside of the United States, please be advised you may experience issues connecting to the NJVS.org website, partner sites and courses. This is dependent on the country's internet access policies.
-
Can I monitor the progress of my child in the course?
Yes. Part of the student application is a section which asks for "parent/guardian" information. An account will be created for you and you will be able to log in and view the student grades and attendance.
-
Can I use the NJVS for home schooling?
Please review the frequently asked questions posted on the state of NJ website regarding home schooling https://www.state.nj.us/education/genfo/faq/faq_homeschool.htm
-
How do I register my child?
First, you must confirm with the student's school they will accept an NJVS transcript for the course the student will take with the NJVS and issue credit to the student for successfully completing the course. Course credit comes from the student's school, NOT the NJ Virtual School.

How Does the NJVS Work?
The NJ Virtual School partners with each school we work with to provide the best experience possible for the student. The student is responsible for speaking with their guidance counselor before registering for an NJVS course to confirm: The counselor agrees the online course is a good fit for the student. The school will issue credit to the student for taking the course through NJVS (credit is not awarded by NJVS).
The NJVS is available to the student 24/7. The student can communicate with his/her teacher via email or by phone (setting up a pre-determined date and time to speak). The teacher is also available to speak with the parent/guardian regarding progress concerns should they arise.
-
My child has an IEP/SP, will NJVS be a good fit?
If the student has an IEP/SP/504 accommodation plan, please have the sending school contact NJVS Administration at kmiller@moesc.org or (732) 695-7800 x1000 to review our procedures. It is the responsibility of the student/family & school to determine if an online learning environment is appropriate for the student’s learning capabilities.

What can you tell me about the NJVS teachers?
Every NJVS student is taught by a highly-qualified New Jersey Certified teacher. What is a highly qualified New Jersey Certified teacher?
The NJVS only employs teachers who hold New Jersey subject content standard certification. We follow the same hiring practices as required for public school teachers: interview, orientation, application and resume, reference check, credentials on file, fingerprinting, and board approval. In addition, all of our virtual teachers are required to attend in-person training sessions to navigate the coursework, learning and student management systems.
The teachers continue to work with our virtual and technical staff and receive additional online training during the school year. The NJVS teachers are well-informed and familiar with the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards, since most teach during the day in public schools throughout the state. The Director evaluates each teacher and provides feedback.
We continue to work with our newly hired teachers by providing them with another virtual teacher, by subject, to conduct on-going communication for a successful year.

We accept Visa or Master Card. Payment is required for the student to be enrolled into a course. Only one credit card can be used to provide payment. We currently do not support multiple payment sources. Full payment must be made prior to the end of the registration period for the student to be enrolled.
